| Alopecia is a condition where hair falls out in patches suddenly or over a period of time. If the hair falls out in patche it is known as Alopecia Areata. If the hair falls out from all of the body it is called Alopecia Totalis.
It is often due to auto immune disease or can be congenital. It can occur as a result of stress and can occur over night either in small local area's or can occur over a period of time in patches. Alopecia totalis is where the whole body losses its hair.
Recently I treated a client who had lost a large area of hair on the crown of his head this condition is known as Alopecia areata. He had tried potions and lotions and medication from his G.P. and had no re-growth in 3 months. As a young man this was causing him a lot of anxiety and embarassment. He had taken to wearing a hat indoors and out even on those hot summer days we had! I treated this him with acupuncture, once a week over a period of six weeks. After the first treatment there was encouraging results and some fluffy hair could be seen. After the second treatment the diameter of the bald patch had noticably reduced and I started to treat the condition more enthusiastically using a plum blossom needle. The client was delighted with the results and was confident enough to stop wearing his hat. The next few treatments focused on encouraging the regrowth of the hair follicles and my clients confidence grew as fast as his hair after six weeks there was little evidence that he had lost any hair. (Pictures documenting this will be posted ASAP)
